| Feinstein Foundation Press Release March 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 12, 2008
The Dedham Food Pantry has teamed up with the Feinstein Foundation to fight hunger. For every dollar donated to the Food Pantry during March and April the Feinstein Foundation of Cranston, RI will make matching donations: up to one million dollars nationwide. The Foundation also will donate a dollar for every pound of food donated in March and April.
Food Pantry Co-President Kristine Anderson said, "The Feinstein grant is a great opportunity for donors to increase the value of their donation." The Food Pantry distributes food to one hundred and sixty Dedham families. While most food is donated, Ms. Anderson noted that there are always items that must be purchased. Donations make those purchases possible, and donations during the Feinstein Grant period are magnified by the matching dollars from the grant. "The matching funds received from the Feinstein Foundation provide us with a rare chance to receive additional funds", said Ms. Anderson. All donations received by April 30, 2008 will count towards the matching grant funds.
The Food Pantry also announced that it will be conducting a fund raising drive among Dedham school children. The Food Pantry will be sending home flyers explaining the Feinstein grants and asking children to make a small contribution towards the fight against hunger. Ms. Anderson explained that, "Even a contribution of one dollar can help fight hunger. We want each child to know that their contribution will help another local child and family in need."
The Dedham Food Pantry is an entirely local charity serving Dedham residents who are referred by local agencies. The pantry relies solely on donations and its own fund raising. It operates with an all volunteer staff and minimal overhead. For the last seventeen years the Pantry has been located at St. John's United Methodist Church, 50 Oakdale Avenue, which graciously donates the space to the Pantry. Food donations are accepted every Thursday from 3 to 5 PM at the Food Pantry. Monetary motions may be mailed to the Dedham Food Pantry, PO Box 46, Dedham, Massachusetts, 02027-0046
